I saw God Today...

I SAW GOD TODAY
Artist: George Strait
I just walked down the street to the coffee shop
had to take a break
I'd been by her side for eighteen hours straight
I saw a flower growing in the middle of the sidewalk
pushing up through the concrete
like it was planted right there for me to see
the flashin' lights, the honkin' horns
all seemed to fade away
in the shadow of that hospital at 5:08
I saw God today

Chorus:
I've been to church
I've read the book
I know He's here, but I don't look
near as often as I should
Yeah, I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I'd just slow down to stop and stare
opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today

I saw a couple walking by they were holding hands
Man, she had that glow
yeah I couldn't help but notice she was starting to show
I stood there for a minute takin' in the sky
lost in that sunset
a splash of amber melted in the shades of red

Chorus

I got my face pressed up against the nursery glass
She's sleeping like a rock
My name on her wrist wearing tiny pink socks
She's got my nose, she's got her mama's eyes
My brand new baby girl
She's a miracle
I saw God today

I cry every time I hear this song on the radio b/c it so perfectly describes how I feel about my precious baby girl. In all my life, I’ve always known that I wanted to be a mommy. When we lost our first pregnancy, I was crushed…beyond crushed. I cried and cried. I felt empty inside. I prayed and prayed questioning why and praying that God would bless me with a healthy pregnancy and baby in the future. We were surprised how quickly we were blessed to be pregnant again afterwards and I can’t even describe the feeling at our first appt when we got to see our little “peanut” and her little heartbeat flicker.  And then when our baby girl arrived…oh the joy! She’s definitely got her daddy’s nose and her momma’s eyes, just like the song..I could never give this girl enough kisses and hugs or love her enough. I just pray that she always knows how very loved and special she is!

A little catch-up

A few weeks ago we went to the Spring game at KU. It was a beautiful day and we had lots of fun...wow was it ever a teaser for football season!!

Aspen and I waiting in line to get our poster signed by some of the old players - it was so exciting to get to meet them!

I was so worried that she was going to get sunburned! It was chilly in the morning, so I made a big first time mommy mistake of forgetting the sunscreen and her hat. I used my shadow to block her for the most part so besides some rosy cheeks she was fine!
Joe was working so mom and Dakota came up and went with us.
This picture cracks me up. We were trying to get a picture with Jay. Dakota took it so he missed slightly, but he got enough of it to see Aspen's face. I think she was a little scared of him! She'll learn...don't you worry!
Happy girl on the way back to the car. She was super tired and fell asleep probably 2 seconds after this picture was taken but she did great the whole day, I was so proud of her!! We had a lot of fun and a great day together!

Can't wait for football season to get here!!

Mothers Day weekend

We had a wonderful mother's day weekend last weekend. On Saturday we went to the Softball fields to watch Joe play in a few games in his tournament. Aspen loved being out there and it was so fun for me to take her since I spent a lot of summers in my childhood out at the softball fields!
Aspen and her daddy on a break in between innings.
I love how she is actually watching the game in this picture! Go Daddy! :) We left the softball games and met one of my good friends and her new little baby girl for a lunch/shopping date. I'll never quite understand how childrens stores in an outside shopping mall don't make their aisles wide enough to fit a stroller through! It was a good afternoon! We got home shortly before Joe and then made dinner and had a nice Saturday night together as a family.
 Mother's Day 2011
My first Mothers Day as a mommy.  Aspen showered me with lots of love starting at 6:30 am and a big wet kiss! :) We went to church and then just stayed at home and relaxed most of the rest of the day. I got a chance to finish my book while enjoying the sunshine outside while Aspen napped in the morning, and I napped with her in the afternoon. We had BBQ for dinner and it was such a great day. I'm so blessed to be her mommy.
Any day spent with this cutie is a good one!

Me and Aspen with my other little girl, Roxy. We took this before we went on a family walk in the afternoon.

Tuckered out after a long walk outside and a fun day!

Aspen - 9 months

I can't even believe my baby girl is 9 months old. She is very quickly turning into a little toddler, rather than a baby. It's exciting and sad all at the same time. Aspen is a ball of energy and is always going non-stop. I am exhausted every night when I lay down for bed but I wouldn't have it any other way. Here is a little about what she is up to at 9 months!

Weight - 20.6 lbs (75%)
Height- 26.75 inches (50%)

Size 3 diapers
Size 9 and 12 months clothes
Size 1&2 shoes

Sleep- She goes down by 9 every night and is up around 6. She takes 2 naps a day - a shorter one in the morning and a longer one in the early afternoon. She is sleeping in her crib in her room all night and hardly ever gets up anymore!

Eating - She is still having 4 - 6 oz bottles a day, oatmeal in the morning, and "dinner" at night. For her dinner meal we are still eating baby food but I'm also starting her on more real food. She's tried mashed potatoes, green beans, bread, bananas, cheese, scrambled eggs and her very favorite is graham crackers!! And yes I will admit, she's a sucker for cake, ice cream and cookies (just like her momma is a sucker for those eyes begging)! Shes getting pretty good at feeding herself whatever I put on her tray. She's usually up to try anything! She has 2 teeth now!!

She's become quite the jabberer lately and understands a lot of words. She says mama and dada all the time. She's still working on picking up the sign language but I think she's made up her own as well - when we get home from daycare and it's time for a bottle she starts saying "ba-ba" while patting her belly. HAHA She also says ba-ba around her bear, ball, and books though so we aren't sure.

Aspen is a VERY busy active girl. She loves to climb, chase around Roxy, look at her books and play with her toys that she can make noise with. She took her first steps on April 20 and we are getting a few more out of her everyday (she took 6 the other day when I got there to pick her up from daycare)!! She still crawls mostly everywhere at this point b/c she can get there quicker!

Aspen has a big personality and an even bigger smile. Everyone constantly comments on her big brown eyes. I love her more than I could have ever imagined and everyday I go to bed feeling so blessed to get to be her mommy!
