Little Moments

Monday our daycare provider had some family things to take care of out of town so Aspen and I spent the day together! These days are always a blessing to me.  We spent our morning playing at Nana's before coming home to go on a long walk and then eat lunch. After lunch, Aspen (and I - haha) took a nap.  She took about a two hour nap which allowed me to watch HGTV for about 30 min before falling asleep myself for about 30 min, and then I got some things done around the house while she was sleeping.

It was a beautiful day outside, windows and screen door open all day! So we decided to head over to a nearby playground after Aspen woke up from her nap.  She had a BLAST! She was going from one thing to the next so fast it was hard to make sure she wasn't going to fall off something or go head first down a slide! I went down the taller slides with her and climbed through the tunnels that were never meant for adults to climb through. She loved the swing the very most.
My little dare devil going up and down the stairs over and over again. She chose to climb up sideways when momma was too busy trying to take pictures.

We had so much fun.  It's the little moments like this that I just want to take a mental picture and just always remember how happy she makes me, and how much fun I have chasing her around! I'm so thankful for the gorgeous day we got on a day off so we could spend time outside and make these beautiful memories.
I love how you can just see the excitement in her eyes in this picture.

And I'll add this just because it cracks me up to no end. Aspen's new thing is to walk around with her stacker rings on her feet. They were bracelets for awhile but apparently we've moved on to ankle bracelets.
She walks around with them like this all.the.time - just like its no big deal.  She gets really upset when she tries to put the smaller ones on and they won't go over her feet.  She's so silly!  The girl loves her accessories! :)

Giggles and Bows

We didn't have too much to be excited about on Saturday. Our Jayhawks played Georgia Tech and we lost....embarassingly lost - it was NOT PRETTY. And not fun to watch.

So my entertainment was the fact that at half time I tried to put a bow in Aspen's hair...and for the first time it stayed in!   I didn't get a great picture of it, but as always she looked pretty stinking cute.  She's definitely rocking a mullet these days with her hair in the back growing all the time, but the hair on the top not so much. I've been waiting to put a bow in that girls hair since she was born!

Aspen has always loved Roxy. Roxy hasn't always been so sure.  Aspen's now started to go to Roxy and put her head down on her (this is how she hugs) and say "awww". HAHA She will also go right up to her face and try to kiss her with a big "mmmmmm-waaaaa" And to think I have to beg for my kisses! :)

At least she gave us something to smile about!

KU vs Northern Illinois Game

Last weekend we went to the second KU home game. We were picked to lose but ended up pulling out a last second (literally a touchdown with 20 seconds left in the game!) win! It was a great game, back and forth the whole time and we had a lot of fun being able to be there and enjoy the win!

The game started out with perfect weather and sunshine (after the down-pour on us when we got out of the car to walk up to the game - luckily we jumped under a huge tree and didn't get too wet).

Enjoying the game with my silly girl!

Waving the wheat after a Jayhawk Touchdown!

Me and Joe after the second rain of the game!

Once it got dark it cooled off a ton into what I call "football weather"! I literally had Aspen in her cheer outfit and sandals at the beginning and by the end she was in a sweatshirt and sweats, socks and shoes! I love it when it's cool, but not looking forward to the games where it's freezing.

I thought she was going to make it through the whole game..she literally fell asleep with 8 seconds left on the clock and her daddy and I screaming b/c we just scored to put us ahead for the win...just laid her head down on my shoulder and was OUT. 25 lbs sure seems like a lot more when it's dead weight that you're carrying uphill back to the car! My arms were sore the next day! :)

We love our Jayhawks and so happy we got our second win of the season! Now we'll see if our defense can step it up a little bit so we can get some more wins this season!

Rock Chalk Saturdays!

We LOVE our Jayhawks!! This season we decided to get season tickets for the first time. We were a little nervous about how Aspen would do, but the girl will sit still and watch football on tv (when I can't ever for the life of me get her to sit still) so we decided to go for it. Lucky for us, she did AMAZING and really seems to like it. There are plenty of things going on with the game, the people around us, the band, Jay and of course the cheerleaders to keep her entertained...and when all that failed we resorted to the game program and she did great!

The first home game was over Labor Day weekend and we had a blast! Here's little miss at our tailgate. She kept putting her sippy cup in the cup holder of the chair and then clapping for herself!

Apparently I do not realize how fun climbing in and out of chairs can be (not to mention almost falling head first more than once and giving me a few heart attacks)! We played this game over and over and o.v.e.r...

Me and my girl enjoying some yummy food! :)

Meeting Jay! She reached out and touched his nose then pulled back and started crying. Every time he came anywhere near us she would not take her eyes off of him!

Daddy and Aspen enjoying the game after the rain delay.  Neither one of them were thrilled to take their eyes off the game for a picture!

Tuckered out after cheering on her JAYHAWKS!! She now knows to put her arms up in the air for "touchdown" and we're working on waving the wheat! Looking forward to tomorrow's game already!! GOOOO JAYHAWKS!

Tubes

Aspen got her tubes on Tuesday morning.  We had just been having too many ear infections so I knew that she needed it done. As much as I had faith that she would be just fine (and as much as EVERYONE I talked to said it was just a simple procedure and she'd be fine) it's still so scary to have to hand over your daughter knowing what they are going to do and impossible not to worry.

Aspen did great while we were waiting. We just took her in her pjs since we were just going straight back home to have a lazy day anyway. The nurse gave her some stickers and she was perfectly content.  They let Joe do a lot of the initial stuff for her - take her vitals, temperature, and put her little EKG stickers on which helped a ton. Aspen's not a fan of random people touching her....AT ALL. So then when it was time, the nurse came to get her and I kissed her and handed her over, fully expecting a screaming cry. It was worse, just a little whiny cry - followed by a "mama" as she went down the hall. ugh. Break my heart. Then the longest 20 min ever and then they came to get us. She was still out of it when I took her, crying and couldn't hold her head up yet. But luckily someone had told me to bring her snacks so with some apple juice and teddy grahams she started to wake up more and was good to go.

We went home, ate some breakfast and played for a little bit and then Aspen (and mommy) took a long nap. I could tell after her nap that she was feeling much better so we had some lunch and went on a long walk since the weather was just absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you to everyone who offered advice and encouragement, we're so happy that she's happy and healthy and done with it (and hopefully all her ear infections too!).

13 months!

So I promise I won't do updates every month from now on but I feel like Aspen has grown up and added so many more things to her list of things she can do that I have to update at 13 months!

Sunday was officially her 13 month bday. We decided to go to the zoo since the weather was absolutely gorgeous! It's so fun to see her find the animals and point at them and talk about them in her jibberish. After the zoo we went and played in the park for a little bit and then went to a birthday party for 2 of her Spellman cousins! We had a lot of fun and were exhausted at the end of the day!
Aspen is now signing please, more, her version of thank you (which is more like blowing kisses) and all done. She is understanding so much more when we talk.  I can ask her to go get something or take something somewhere and she knows what I'm saying. It's so fun! She blows kisses, waves bye-bye, shakes her head yes and no, and has even added a few words every now and then.  She says mama, dada, yeah (sounds like nah), baby, and ball (she sounds like she has a southern accent when she says ball b/c she makes sure to get the "l" sound in there).

She's so funny and constantly cracks us up. She loves to go outside and has to go out everytime we let Roxy out. If I even mention "outside" it's yeah, yeah, yeah while bouncing up and down and then takes off running to the back door. What in the world are we going to do with this girl when it's cold?

She's learning body parts. She knows toes, hair, eyes (she's facinated with poking you in the eye and then saying "owwwwww"), mouth, and belly.  She knows nose but will always point to your nose if you ask her where her nose is.  She also knows what I'm saying when it's bathtime and I ask her if she wants to take her clothes off. She'll start pulling at them and then when I help her take them off she will takes her clothes to the laundry basket without me even telling her to now.

She's facinated with shoes lately. She loves to put on her own and tries to wear mine and even Joe's all the time. She loves her dress up outfits and wearing my bracelets! She loves to read books - her favorites are good night moon and a sesame street book about bathtime "bubbles, bubbles".

She's such a smart girl and is changing into more and more of a big girl every day!!
